Our Purpose

Harman Foundation’s Purpose is to Create Hope & Empower Lives.

We work relentlessly to support women and their children seeking refuge from domestic, sexual, and family violence, and address distinctive issues faced by the wider South Asian Communities in Australia. So far, we’ve uplifted the lives of over 2000+ families including 100 women and their 22 children through our refuge, HER House.

Our Story

The Singh family, Harinder, Maninder, Manu and Nikki, founded the Harman Foundation in 2013 as a tribute to the heart of the family, Harman Preet Singh, who was taken away too soon in a tragic accident.

Harman Preet Singh, called with love as “the Legend” by the family, was a kind and loving young man who believed in giving back to the community. A devotee to his family and an exemplary follower of Sikhi, he embodied the value of selfless service. Harman was a corporate lawyer by profession and volunteered his time at legal aid centres to help migrant families and individuals. He truly practiced the joy of giving and his pure energy and impact was felt by all he helped. To capture his spirit and positive energy and to keep it flowing in the world, Harman Foundation was created.

Through the Foundation, the Singh family addressed the urgent need for offering support services to help other multicultural families dealing with hardships. Creating a system they didn’t have access too when they were rebuilding their lives after experiencing a life altering tragedy. The Singh family strongly believe that everyone should have access to free services and care to support restarting.

Our Journey

Soon after the Foundation began helping families with grief and loss support, they became aware of the other pressing issues suffering the multicultural community in Australia, particularly women of colour facing the most horrid living situations. The Foundation started to receive increasingly higher volumes of help enquiries by women in high-risk home environments being exposed to domestic, sexual and family violence. To help these women and their children, the founders started HER House, and so, began the organic evolution of the organisation to become the most trusted support system among multicultural women and families across Australia.

And since, the founders have put in practice the model to grow and build the organisation based on the most urgent needs of the community. The Foundation team has identified key areas of impact and introduced grassroot projects to deliver the best possible outcomes. This journey wouldn’t be possible without the support of our long-term partners
