My baby daughter and I needed desperate help. We felt alone.
Harman Foundation gave me a place to stay, grocery, counselling, and legal help. They also helped me apply for Medicare and Centrelink. Thanks to them, I got into Cert III at TAFE. They arranged childcare for my daughter, so I could focus on my studies. This support has helped me feel more confident and less alone.
I had no home, no support, and no hope.
Harman Foundation provided stable accommodation, helped me access Centrelink and housing support, and connected me with English classes and employment services. I feel stronger, safer, and more hopeful. I am regaining my independence and confidence, knowing I have the support I need to build a better future.
I was kicked out of the house by my husband. I had no place to go. I was roaming around with my suitcases. I was crying and thinking to myself, ‘Where will I go? How will I manage everything?
I came to Harman Foundation’s office with my luggage and was given shelter and food. Harman Foundation came forward to keep me as if god had sent them for me to support me till my last breath.
My husband’s verbal, physical, mental and sexual abuse made my life hell. This had a dramatic effect on me, my daughter, our mental health and physical stability in life. Having no family in this country.
Harman Foundation accompanied me to the court and referred me to WDVCAS team which helped me make the right decision. I truly would not have been able to survive that day without their guidance. They helped me open my bank account, lodged my job application and offered counselling sessions to boost my self-confidence and self-worth. They helped me enrol in TAFE and enrolled my daughter in primary school. Now I am learning how to drive. They helped me in so many ways I cannot imagine my life without their support.
Harman Empowerment and Refuge House – HER House, has been a refuge home for Preet and 99 other women and their 22 children, who have found hope and inspiration to rebuild their lives under our roof.
HER House is our principal project launched in 2016. The purpose of this project is to provide vulnerable women and their children with safe accommodation, support and case management services.
At HER House, we strive to cultivate an environment where survivors can rebuild their lives. We offer short to medium term accommodation, legal, mental health, financial, vocational and professional counselling and guidance, and child-support service to enable survivors of domestic, sexual and family violence to build a new life.
HER House is a pivotal initiative to support the women and children from the multicultural community. Collaborations with the government and non-government agencies have strengthen our ability to expand our services, reach and grow our impact.
Still, insufficient funding remains an ongoing challenge for us, particularly securing long-term funding and capacity limitations at the current facility. On average, five women are turned away weekly due to space constraints, highlighting the urgent need for accommodation expansion.
We are seeking more financial support from both government and corporate social responsibility funds, and individual donations count as well. Please contact us for collaboration opportunities.
